Rumors are circulating in Taiwan that Apple is evaluating Retina screens for the next iPad Mini, probably Panels by SCST, which is said to have sent samples to the company. These retina panels use OGS technology. OGS provides much lower costs compared to normal LCD screens in manufacturing, however it has quirks in its manufacturing process that need to be worked out.
OGS tech offers significant cost savings compared to the traditional G / G-type touch panels while not changing the LCD panel process. However, it’s faced some low yields stemming from the bubble problems, plus yellow tint, both of which should be eliminated by using the pricey vacuum equipment and switching to the full lamination process.
